Question:

What is wrong with Xavier?

I am just curious, every time I see someone suggest it on here people never seem to like it. Is it too common? Too different? Are people adverse because it starts with the unusual X? Would the spelling Zavier make it any more well-received? Just curious on your thoughts on the name.

  1. my friend has that name.

    hes a great kid...

so i dont think aaaany thing is wrong with it.

  2. Perhaps people don't know how to pronounce it.   Do you say it with an "H" or with a "Z"?

Or could they want to avoid a name close to the end of the alphabet?

Some people stick with names that have been used in their families, perhaps to honor either deceased or living relatives.  You might try the suggestion on someone who is willing to be innovative and introduce a new name into their family.

You may see from time to time an article about baby-naming that cites the U. S. Census about trends in names. Perhaps you can start a new trend!

  3. I like the name....

  4. to me  thats  one  of  the  worst names  i  can  hear

  5. I don't think that there is anything wrong with the name, personally i love it.

  6. This is a fabulous name - I love it.  My husband thinks it is too different, but I love it...especially because of St Francis Xavier.  However, I am not a fan of Zavier.  To me, it doesnt sound right.  Xaviuer sounds regal and distinguished, but Zavier falls short - just my opinion.

As for people liking names...oh, the masses are a**es.  I mean, you are talking about an entire world that NEEDS to have a Top 10 name.  Aidan, Caden, Jayden, Braden - oh my...cant anyone think for themselves anymore?

YOU DO!  Good work. Solid, classic names!

  7. i think its just an ugly name -- although that is only my opinion -- other than that not sure of the reason..

  8. Z ands a zing to it

  9. You know, I think people are too critical of names. I think that if a name is within the realm of somewhat heard of, it's just fine. Even a name like Gertrude can be made fine if it's put on the right person.

The thing is, the stranger the name is, the more likely your child won't "pull it off" so to speak. Everyone is different. Gertrude would look okay on a thin perky blonde because she'd be able to pull it off. But personally I don't think it would look good on an overweight smelly person, lol.

That's why it's safer to stick with names that don't have negative associations to begin with. I don't think that Xavier has any negative associations. It's a fine name. Your child will definitely be able to pull it off! Good luck!

  10. I personally love the name and I like it with zay-vier. I think most people don't think too highly of really unusual names. Don't let anyone affect your decision.

  11. I don't like the zay-vier pronunciation, but otherwise I love this name!

  12. I love the name! it's my son's name and everyone I tell says that it is a beautiful and strong name. But I spelled it Xzavier, the way we liked it said better than zay-vi-er

  13. There's nothing wrong with Xavier.  It's a good Roman Catholic name.  In fact, I know a little boy with this name.  The only issue is that for some reason people pronounce it /x-zay-vier/, which  is annoying.  Reminds me of pronouncing Illinois as /il-in-OYZ/

  14. I don't like any name that starts with an X. I don't like Zavier because it reminds me of an Alien.

  15. I love the name Xavier :)

But the one kid I know named Xavier is a real weirdo, haha!

  16. I like the name Xavier I dont like it spelled with a Z doesnt look or sound right to me. I also dont think its to common either and different is good haha

  17. I like it, personally.

  18. I like Xavier. =D

  19. i really like that name

and my close friends name is that

    and its really nice

  20. Nothing! I like it! Infact I want to call my next child (if it's a boy) Ethan Xavier.

  21. I don't know why people don't like. I really don't either. Not because it starts with an X-just because it's not a pretty name.

  22. Are you going to pronounce it x-ah-vee-ay or x-ay-vee-ur?

I think it's a nice name. I knew a boy with that name. No one judged him or anything. I don't think that's common
