What is wrong with being an elitist?

Honestly

lets say you were "lucky" enough to be born into a wealthy family (top 2%), you worked really hard through highschool ( 4.0 GPA), got accepted to one of the best universities in the world, got a job that pays you a top 6 figure salary and accumulated a net worth in the 7 figure range before you were 30, got married to another "elitist", reproduced a new generation of "elitists", put your kids in one of the best preparatory schools in the world, and gave way for the cycle to continue.

Is there anything wrong with the person I just described?

they are not out of touch with reality.

They have honestly ALWAYS worked hard but they take pride (obviously...who wouldn't...doesn't everyone have a right to take pride in their accomplishments?)

--There is a difference between being an "elitist" and being downright arrogant, the same way a very beautiful person can know that they are very beautiful and embrace their beauty without being stuck up or conceited.

  1. Most really rich families got that way from inheriting money that goes back from some criminal activity that a family member engaged in. The elitist also have more political influence by using their wealth to lobby congress to pass that damage our country and suppress the working class. Without the ruling rich elites, our country wouldn't be in the mess that it's in. In a capitalistic country money rules, and the elites have no morals by the evidence of the state of our country.

  2. The problem is that people aren't perfect.  In that situation, most people WOULD lose touch with reality.  While elitism may not be intrinsically bad, it usually leads to bad things.

  3. I think I get your question.  I use to work for a dr. who would not charge his wealthy peers for an office visit - PC (professional courtesy) would be on the bill.  Most of his paying customers were working class and pay their bill off 10 or 15 dollars a month.  This does not mean there are not wonderful, successful, generous and wealthy doctors all over the world who are not elitists.  Maybe the temptation to become an "elitist" is hard to resist, but can be done if you have strength of character.

  4. Being an elitist is anti-democratic.  We have public schools, but all the republicans want private schools for their kids - don't want their kids to get touched by kids without a million bucks.

Republicans are elitist right out of the shoot - that's why they blame it on Obama.  That's how you make a Republican Lie - anything illegal, immoral or shameful you're doing you blame instantly on your opponent.  We all learned that from fat little Karl Rove.

  5. Nothing wrong with being an elitist. Isn't that kinda-sorta the American dream?

I don't care McCain is rich or married to an heiress. Good for him.

I don't care if he owns 17 houses. I would love to own 17 houses.

I care about his policies being elitist.

  6. There is nothing wrong with what you described.  However, and elitist believes "that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources."  You are simply describing the financially elite.

I guess that I have a problem with people thinking that only those with money should have power, be able to vote, or have the government provide any services for them.

  7. Nothing.

But McCain did not have a 4.0 GPA.

Is Affirmative action worse than Legacy?

    Nope.

Legacy students do far worse in school.

  8. At least Barack Obama knows how many houses he owns....

  9. I think you are confusing elitest with being well off.  Being well off just means that you are well off but being an elitist means that you believe you are superior to everyone else because of your pedigree so there is a difference between being well off and being an elitest.
