Question:

What is wrong with employers?

What are employers obsessed about college degrees? I'm mostly focusing on the IT world but, this could stretch to other job fields as well.

Today, in order to get almost any job relating to computers, hardware, software, networking or anything similar, you need to college degree in the related field AND/OR a bachelors degree in computer science. WHY???

I just recently got a job testing software and hardware at this company and apparently I am the first person they have hired without a college degree. The irony is, I dropped out of high school and in spite of that, I have more knowledge and hands on experience working with computers than the guys with degrees do!

Why do employers require so much education for a field so simple? What we do at work, a friggin monkey could do.

  1. In some cases experience is considered the same as a college degree, I believe they consider 4 yrs. in the field the same as a 2 yr. degree. By the time I'm done with high school I'll already have 3.5 yrs. experience working with the tech. dept. which the superintendent told me was more important than a college degree and they'll probably hire me right after i graduate because of my experience.

  4. I always think that people can learn from their experience. You dropped out of high school and drop into working. This experience gave you more knowledge and hands on experience workig with computers than the gus with degrees do. While they have earned other knowledge from the experience from their college experience, which maybe you haven't been aware yet. The difference is that you have gained different knowlege from your experience. In my opinion, there is never a very easy job.

I also suggest that you can communicat with other people on Jobirn.com, including hiring managers and recruiters. You can establish your network for career there.
