Question:

What is wrong with green living, protecting the planet and preserving the environment?

it has become very fashionable to deny global warming and such things, and to argue that it is all a big lie designed to make money from taxes or win elections.

but even assuming the whole thing is one complete heap of lies and miscalculations, what harm could green living do? Why do people hate it so much to hear of schemes and ideas aimed at protecting wildlife, saving energy or cutting down on pollution and waste?

  1. There is absolutely nothing wrong with green living, protecting the planet and preserving the environment.  What is wrong is making a quick buck or winning awards for a theory, not a proven fact.  And then making politcal moves to enforce changes that would hurt the little people just trying to eek out a living in modern society.  Everything proposed by the global warming politicians are not workable solutions that are proven but will definitely hurt the middle and low class society with higher costs and taxes.  Wide sweeping, change, made quickly, is always a bad idea as it's always based on someone's "theory", eliciting emotional reactions by society and can even lead to civil upheaval.  It didn't take 10 years to get the planet in this mess, it won't be fixed in 10 years.  Prudence in change making and long term vision is called for in this situration, not misguided quick changes.  What we do need is young scientists entering the environmental field with new ideas and solid education to fill the jobs that will be created in this field.

  2. Nothing, so long as it is done from conscience and not from governmental brainwashing and the introduction of stealth taxes. Lets look at the situation, it is being "green" that has become fashionable, not the denial of same. Why is it that every environmentally friendly initiative ends up costing the public in one way or another? Whether it be buying organic produce or only having our bins emptied fortnightly, or to being penalised for owning a particular vehicle. Or the congestion charge or the absurdity of "recycling" where the majority of items are shipped abroad for re-processing as this country does not have the facilities to do the job. Indeed, since the EU directive on landfill much of our rubbish is shipped abroad, a case of out of sight out of mind if ever there was one.

Airlines are penalised for pollution, this cost is borne by the passenger, quite frankly the list is endless but I hope I have made some kind of point in favour of it being a massive con in pursuit of taxes or saving money rather than the planet.

I agree that resources should not be squandered whether that be achieved by reducing our consumption, or not adding to existing pollution, but these initiatives should not cost the taxpayer more either in finances or inconvenience, nor should they be done by government imposed threat.

Finally, we are a tiny island we contribute little in the way of destruction, I would have more faith in the powers that be's attempts to save the planet if they spent more of their energies going after the real destroyers. But hey, those baddies are producing millions of £s or $s.So it is not about money then? Are we the only country "doing our bit"? Look around, I think you may find that it is the electorate who are "green" and I do not mean environmentally.

  3. Nothing wrong with green living. People hate it because

it advises to be frugal on energy and fuel consumption. . All these controls the reckless use of power,

gas, fertilizers , pesticides water and other resources. People dont want to change, even though they know it is good for the future generations. We have to live green so that the coming generations will have something left in all the resources and world be livable for them.

So it is must for us to live naturally.

  4. Because there is too much knee jerk reaction.  They want to "force" the thought new energy sources down our throat for political gain.  These new sources aren't actually thaught threw, take e85 for example.  Nothing is wrong with our energy sources, it is the fact we over consume.  The easiest fix is too make what we have more efficient. Yes we should live more green and conserve, use BETTER energy sources once they have been actually proved better.

  5. Most of this "green" is c**p. I think everyone should do their part to reduce waste.

I hate people pontificating what they think I should do with my life. Look at Algore as a prime example. Do what I say not as I do.

My main objection is that most people have no idea what they are talking about or understand the problem. Just look at the wild claims about florescent lighting, or wind power. I'm assuming one can understand the concept of energy usage.

Yes in my opinion man made global warming is like the Easter bunny or the tooth fairy. They exist only in the minds of children.

  6. There is nothing wrong with green living and preserving the enviroment. Go for it.

  7. Because it is shoved down our throat constantly, and many of us have been doing this sort of stuff quietly for years.

    Well said Willow

  8. Two things you are confused about. You think the 'greens' care about the planet and you think government can help the environment.

Greens are for socialism/communism but masquerading currently under environmental sheeps clothing. They want control of your money and your life. They are NOT interested in the health of you or your children.

Government in control only makes things worse. Look at china. Huge populatoin and HUGER control of their every breathe, but the most polluted country on the planet.

In America the great lakes were cleaned up by private citizens standing for their rights to control their own property and their shared property (the lakes)

Government completely ruined Yellowstone park last century.. look it up.

    You are being lied to.

Predicting the weather 50 years from now is science fiction. It always will be.

  9. the consumer junkies of the throwaway generation have been trained from an early age to think only of memememe, to look no further than the ends of their noses, the think the world is theirs to use, if they think at all.

the 'all a big lie' thing is just one stage in their denial. its scary stuff, i'm not surprised those who have bought in so deeply to the rampant free market consumer lifestyle dont want to think about it.

i dont blame them individually but it makes it very easy for the vested interests to manipulate them. grrrrrrrr

  10. There's nothing wrong with green living, protecting or preserving the planet and environment.

My guess is that some people are reluctant to change the habits of a lifetime.  They've become so used to causing waste and pollution and refuse to think about the damage they're doing. Some think and understand but still lack the courage to make any changes.
