I'm a 14 year old girl. About a two weeks ago (not really sure if its related-don't think it is) I had a really bad virus in my throat- fever, horrible sore throat, chills, muscle aches, etc. and then it subsided into a cough and got better after a week. Recently (after the virus passed) I have had really bad diarrhea. Like it will wake me up because I am in so much pain and I have to go (happening for about three days now. The diarrhea seems to be getting a little bit better.

But the thing that scared me the most is that every single second of the day I am so exhausted, like I feel like i could lie down and pass out any second. That just keeps on getting worse, I can't figure out if this is only because I am sleep deprived or because there is something wrong. Also, I often feel slightly dizzy, and like I am in a daze or a dream. My short term memory doesn't seem to be as good as it normally is, and I'm getting very scared. What is wrong with me????

I also now need glasses (related?)

Please help me, but don't scare me, I'm already worried enough as it is.

Thanks so much

(BTW I do have an anxiety and sleep disorder -insomnia- but never ever anything this bad. During the school year I get like 5 hours of sleep a night and I can still function just as well.)

I just want to know if this is something that requires medical attention, or if it something serious.

Thanks again

  1. Only a doctor can help you with your questions

  2. 2 things:

1 - tell your parents or guardian! (if you havn't already)

and 2? Get yourself to your doctor.

It could just be a virus, you could be getting dehydrated from the diarrhea, so make sure to drink lots of fluids! The dizziness and tiredness can be caused by dehydration, I had it a year ago and I felt almost the same way.

But don't just take my word for it, do tell your parents and do get to a doctor.

  3. well...i heard there was a new virus in pools that gives u a sickness (includes diareea) for 2 weeks but seriously consider going 2 they docter they're the experts after all

  4. Sounds like Mono! This is not a mental health issue, it's a virus.See a doc to be sure, but here are the symptoms of mono:

The most common symptoms of mono are:

Fever, which may range from 101° (38.3°) to 104° (40°), and chills.

Sore throat, often with white patches on the tonsils (which may look like strep throat).

Swollen lymph nodes all over the body, especially the lymph nodes in the neck.

    Swollen tonsils.

    Headache or body aches.

A lack of energy and fatigue.

    Loss of appetite.

Pain in the upper left part of the abdomen, which may indicate that the spleen has become enlarged.

These symptoms usually get better within one or two months.

Mono is contagious, and can be spread by kissing.

  5. If it is worrying you then definitely go get checked out. It could just be the after effects of the virus but only your doctor can tell you for sure. You don't need anything more to make you anxious.

  6. I would say that your body has just fought of a virus and that it is extremely tired. They say when you have viruses (I just got back from the drs office to find out I have a cold virus too, Sore throat, stuffy nose, cough and headache.) that you need plenty of liquids and rest. If you didnt get adequate rest during your virus your body could be left extremely tired. Also the diarrhea is probably the virus also leaving your body. I also have an anxiety disorder so I tend to worry a lot which gets me to the doctors office for something as simple as a cold virus but if everything is subsiding then I would say you have NOTHING to worry about :). Stay in control and its probably just your anxiety making you worry. Just drink lots of water and its summer so it shouldnt be hard to get adequate rest. Thats your excuse to sleep in till noon!! :) If you are still worried its not going to hurt going to the doctor but if its a virus they may just tell you that you need plenty of liquids and rest. Good luck!
