I am an exterior janitor. I clean the outside of the building. It is 6 hours a day, a really not that hard. Someone asked If I was going to do anything else, I said no, and realized I was actually happy, the basically called me a loser. "You can do more with your life"

  1. I don't think they meant that you were a loser, just that you're capable of more should you decide to move on.  You could always enroll in a couple of classes or do volunteer work as well.

  2. Nothing is wrong with you liking your job. You could do better than that but if your happy with your job, than you shouldn't quit.

  3. There's nothing wrong.  It's not too common for someone to like their job.  Maybe try to get more hours.  More money, and more enjoyment.  Win/win for you.

  4. If you are happy and you can live on what you earn then don't worry about what other people think.

  5. Sounds like money and prestige are more important to them than they are to you.

If you're happy, more power to you.  So many people make good money, but are miserable and hate their jobs.  personally, that's not what I call success.

Ignore them the best you can, or respond with a mild "Thank you.  I means a lot that you have a high opinion of me." (but only say something like that if you can do it WITHOUT sarcasm.)

And then nod, and go on being happy.
