What is wrong with my 2003 Kawasaki 100 stx-di? tops at 40MPH?

just got it and it seems to run fine but has no power. tops out around 40 and won't hit high RPMs.

Does this unit have a "training key"??...If there is more than one key make sure you try them both.  Sometimes these newer machines have a second, differnent "key" that cuts the power down for younger, less experienced riders.

If that doesn't seem to be the issue, then get started with the usual stuff...

1 Fresh, clean fuel

2 Make sure all spark plugs are clean/gapped properly

3 Check intakes for obstructions

5 Inspect impeller for nicks, cracks, etc (Although this shouldn't limit RPM's)

I'll bet you might have the "training key"...
