  1. Your idle rpms could be set too low (750 is about right). You could have a broken motor mount. Look around probably low down on the sides of the engine and see where it connects to the frame. It bolts to the frame with rubber bushings or cushions. If any of them look cracked or broken or missing it's time to replace them. Check the idle first; it's the easiest. Good luck.

  2. rough idle it seems...its gotta be the fuel system, bad spark or wires, or something else mixing in the combustion chamber...fuel pump, bad filter, cat. converter

  3. lol the motor mounts ...how about not!!! and you cant set the idle on those cars either it is done by the computer you could however have a bad iac (idle air control motor) that is what raises your idle up or down as from referance form the computer. or it could be in need of a tune up. either way not expensive or hard to do for either of those.

  4. my passat did that for a while. i forget how much it cost but it was a problem with my O2 sensors

  5. The car is shaking because of a misfire.  Which on your car will be because of a bad COIL.  Go to Autozone and have them read  your CHECK ENGINE light code(DTC).  It will tell you what cylinder is missing.  Then go home and switch coils with the one next to it.  Then go back and have the code read again.  If the code moved from one cylinder to another then you know what your problem is.

You will have to clear codes in between moving coils so when the new code comes you will see that it says a different cylinder.

  6. you might need a tune up and change your pcv valve and it should help it. if it doesnt then you motor mount might be getting bad. a full tune up could cost anywere from $50-$100 depending on the brand of parts

  7. The last two 1.8T VW's that I've seen with poor idle quality have had problems with the PCV systems. Find a shop that knows VW and have them check it out. Parts have run under 50-60 bucks and an hour or so labor,if that's your problem.
