Question:

What is wrong with my 2005 taurus?

My check engine light went off on my car about a week ago. I had it checked at auto value and it came up as "fuel level sensor a circuit low input." My gas guage has been having problems for a couple weeks. It will stay at E for a while, then jump up to where it should be after driving a bit. Is the sending unit bad? Wiring maybe? Thanks

  1. If your Taurus is a "Flex fuel" model, 8th digit from the front of the VIN is a 2, they have a common problem with what is called the flex fuel sensor module. The fuel level sensor goes through this module, the module goes bad and the fuel gauge reads incorrectly. The module is located under the left side of the dash close to the steering column. The easiest way to find it is to by one from the dealer, crawl under the dash and look for it. It's not real expensive so it won't hurt bad if it's not the problem.

  2. You don't permit email, but you stated that you would like some ideas about depersonalisation, so I'll reprint my answer to another question:

Doctors are better with physical ailments. See section 46 of my website, on depersonalisation, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris

Gazing at your hands, and the Progressive Muscular Relaxation, as shown in section 2, on page I are likely to help. Also be mindful of the details of your daily activities, as advised by one of the therapists experienced in its treatment, who was a former contributer, here.

Because depersonalisation is often related to anxiety, also see section 6; page N first. It might help, if you can associate any event, or change which occurred in your life prior to, or at the time the depersonalisation started.

Therapy may well be of benefit, but knowing the reason for the depersonalisation would give a better indication of the type which is most likely to be effective quickly, although Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is easy to access.

It can often accomplish all that it is capable of within around 6 months. Give "best answer" here to someone else: I've had more than 1000.

  3. I would check the wiring first then get a new sending unit but it sounds like the wires are the problem

  4. it may be the sending unit, but it could be something else. have  a  mechanic  diagnose it for you so you dont waste money on things it may not need

  5. Usually the sending unit is bad...you can check the resistance between the guage and the sending unit if that is 0 ohms and there is 0 ohms resistance from the sending unit plug to ground you most likely have a bad sending unit if either of those circuits have a high or overlimit (OL) reading then you need to repair the wiring...that being said first check your fuses they are the easiest

  6. Most likely it's the sending unit. The other problem is that you own an American car.
