What is wrong with my Internet connection?

Someone helped fix my computer to make it faster. But now, the Internet stops working every 15 minutes. I go to the Control Panel > Network Conenctions and click disable then enable. I have to repeat this process several times for the Internet to work.

Is there a virus, spyware or what should I change my Firewall settings to? I downloaded AVG Internet Security but this problem still persists. Thanks!

  1. Your problem could be virus/malware related, software confliction, setting being off, or a faulty driver. I would suggest running the AVG scanner since it is install, but I would go to http://housecall.antivirus.com and run Trend Micro's free scanner. This can be very helpful as it will scan and remove.

If you installed the AVG Internet Security I would shut off the firewall feature until the networking issue is fixed. Check the Windows firewall in the control panel as well.

Depending on the computer, some come with manufacture software that controls the wifi, ethernet, etc. If this was shut off or uninstalled improperly it can cause intermittent issues. Sometimes the manufacturer will provide the software on their website or most generally you would have to reinstall via the applications recovery disc.

I would also try going to the manufacture website to reinstall the device driver for the ethernet/wifi (which ever you are attempting to use) and see if there are any updates available.

The issue should fall under one of these. These kinds of issues can sometimes be rough to work out and may require a lot of research and trial-&-error.

  2. if it runs through your phone line or something there could be a connection problem

but prolly a virus or something

  3. if your running through a wirless connection try this:

    -click on start

    -then click on run

-in the run box type in services.MSC

    -press enter on key board

-scroll down bottom of the list and see where it says wirless zero configeration

-Double click on wirless zer configeration

    -click on start or restard

this is if you have a belkin wirless, it might work if you have another wirless but its worth a shot ..

if that fails call your wirless service connector and they will help you through the problem step by step.. OR call your router service connecter and they will help you configure your router so you dont loose the wirless signal all the time..
