What is wrong with my baby rabbit?

I had two litters of California rabbits on July 29th. all of them are plump and healthy except one. Its fur is dark while all of the other ones are all really white. Its normally shaped and everything. I have had small ones like this before but none have turned dark. What is wrong with it? Will it live? what is white the dark coloring? Why is it so small?

Here are some pictures to help you understand what I mean.

  1. Awwwww, so adorable!  It's just a different fur color.  They don't all come out the same you know; they're not clones!

But the small size could be because it's a 'runt'' ie. there's usually a small one in a large litter.  It'll probably be just fine.

  2. its probably a runt and its just a different color it will be fine try checking its parents is one kinda grey or black?

  3. When my kids were little we raised many rabbits.  Your pictures bring back fond memories.

It looks like it is his skin that is colored more than the actual fur being colored.  Which made me wonder if he was cold.  Does he feel cold to the touch?  Sometimes human newborns can have trouble regulating their temp and they can look blueish.  He will likely outgrow it if it is a temp regulation problem.

We once had a bunny so small that I doubted he would live.  He was about the size of my thumb, but he thrived.  He actually became the rascaliest rabbit we ever had.  I can't tell you how many times we drove into the drive way and there would be Tigger waiting by where we parked the car.  He was an absolute Houdini when it came to cages.

I wish you the best with the little guy.

  4. his belly looks plump from the pictures. So he is eating. Just keep a eye on him. If you can try getting him some time to feed by himself with the mom so he can catch up to the others in size. Also since he is a runt, he may get problems with fighting against the other to get a t*t, so giving him time alone or with one or two other with mom would help. As for the dark coloring, it is most likely just his fur color. I once had a litter from albino parents and one of the offspring was brown. So I wouldnt really worry about the coat color unless the darkness spreads.

  5. Its probabally just the runt of the litter and the darkness is probabally just the color that it is for no reason, you will sometimes get them diff colored like that and should cause no worries just make sure it gets to eat the others may route it away

  6. Well there are always runts in the family so I wouldn't be too worried about that. If it gets to a point where he is barely growing, I would take him to the vet. Also watch his diet. Colors can vary, but I'm not exactly sure with rabbits. However I know the cats in a litter can have completely different colors of fur. If it helps, my friend had two rabbits from the same litter that were two completely different colors and they turned out to be healthy and fun rabbits. Hope this has helped! :D
