What is wrong with my bolivian ram?

I bought a bolivian ram a few weeks ago to keep company with my male bolivian ram. Since I bought it i have not seen it it eat, but peck the floor where there is no food. I've tried flakes, bloodworms and earthworms but its doesn't seem to be interested

It is very washed out (no colour), has a really dark grey area on top of her head and also has lots of spot patterns along its side. I have read some sites and it says they are stress spots. Picture to show what I mean.

(not my picture but shows my explanation clearly.)

It is very skittish and today I came to the tank to see if it was doing any good and it freaked out. It darted and hit the driftwood then just floated up to the surface where she stayed for about 20 seconds before coming down and hiding behind the driftwood.

Extra info:

The bolivian ram is still young, abit more than half the male bolivian ram.

The male bolivian ram does not bother the female too much. The male's colouration is normal, colourful without little black spots on side.

(not talking about the dominant spots)

My water parameters are perfect, soft, with low pH. I use diy co2. Water parameters are perfect because the rummynose tetras are spawning nearly every morning and the male bolivian ram is colourful and always forages for food.

  1. Aren't most female fish duller than the males? If not then it doesn't sound good. Your tank sounds brilliant so its not your fault, you might have bought a bad fish. Go back to the store and ask for a refund. You shouldn't be to blame if they sold you a bad fish. The only other thing you can do is head down to your local aquarium store (not pet store) and tell them your problem in deatil. Im not sure where abouts in the world you are so your aquarium supply shop should have a good idea on what's wrong.

  2. actually for a female she is very nicely colored

usually the females are much duller then yours is

if you just got her, she might be still getting used to the new environment

which can take anywhere from 2-10 days for any fish

also try to feed spirulina flakes and frozen blood worms as well as frozen brine shrimp

those are the favorites of my rams
