i have a 98 toyota camry and my car battery freaked out this afternoon. i went inside a store for about a half hour and i came out and my car wouldn't start. i got out the voltage checker and it SAID that the battery was giving out full power. the alternator was fine too. but the battery wouldn't turn over. so finally i got a jump start and that worked. my car cranked and it was ready to go. but that is so totally not cool. maybe it has something to do with how hot it is outside?? but my battery is less than a year old. so does anyone know what's going on here?? thanks!

  1. there is a difference between voltage and amperage. you could have a weak battery and still have twelve volts. i would jump start the car and drive it or tow it to a shop and get the system tested.

  2. if you got a jump start then the battery was not giving out full power.  If the battery was not giving out full power because of having to get jumped it then the alternator was not working properly.  You are getting some wrong information from experts who should be helping you.

  3. Sounds like a possible bad starter or dirty battery cable connections at the battery.  Remove both, clean the contact area and try again..

  4. go back to where you bought your battery, it should still have warranty, and have them load test it.  it probably has a bad cell.

  5. dirty battery cables, take them off the battery and clean them and the battery posts with a wire brush and reinstall.
