Whenever I leave my car off for more than a couple of hours, it needs to be jump started.

I have a new battery that has been tested, it is fine.

Yesterday the AAA guy found that one of the connectors was stripped and loose he tightened it and gave it a charge...everything was fine, so I thought the problem was solved,,. this morning it won't start again. just a couple of "clicks" ... what should I do?

  1. It would seem you have a draw on your battery. It could be in any number of circuits, but something is on or drawing power from your battery that shouldn't be.

  2. Get an auto electrician to test your charging system and I think you will find that it is the alternator, possibly a blown diode or regulator pack either way get a new one or reconditioned one.

  3. A circuit in your car is drawing power from your battery that should not be.

It must be a circuit that is drawing a substantial amount of power to drain the battery in only a couple of hours.

You could disconnect the negative terminal of the battery cable and hook up an incandescent test light in between the battery terminal and the cable. Then start pulling fuses until the light goes out or dim. Start out with the higher amp fuses. Make sure your doors are closed. Interior lights will keep the test light on. When you find the culprit circuit trace it to the problem.

It could be your alternator diodes as mentioned here. A loose battery terminal can/will burn them out. A bad diode may allow voltage to feed back through the alternator stator windings

  4. Get your alternator checked. If that's a go, then look at you starter / solenoid.
