My Cat is a 5 year old Maine coon Cat. She is spayed and Has been litterbox trained since she was a kitten. She has had all shots and we take very good care of her and give her lots of attention. My mom recently had a baby in March but she has been doing this since febuary or January. She does not seemed stressed becuase she lays around all the time.

The litterbox is in the laundry room so she gets plenty of privacy.

Recently she has been pooping and peeing everywhere but her litterbox, Such as the Bathtubs, Chairs , Bean bags, carpet, and closets. And today we found throwup/hairball on my chair. What should we do? She does not pee frequently, just when she needs to.

She never uses her litter box anymore!

Here are pictures of her.

  1. aww she is precious look how cute her face is ...she might have an infection you might want to take her to the vet ...or it can be jealousy but still take her to the vet just to be safe

  2. I work at a vet too. Take her with you and have a doc check her for any kind of urinary infections. You could take it a step further and have them do blood work to see if there is anything unusual there. Have them to suggest a good hairball remedy or see if there is a underlying cause to her throwing up. It could be liver or kidney problems as well. I hope you figure it out. There is something wrong though if she used to use her litter box fine. Cat's don't just stop using the litter box. It could be anything including her litter box being moved or using a different litter. If Doc says that she is healthy then try to figure out what has changed that might cause her to do that.

  3. Has she been checked by a Veterinarian to rule things out?  If so then I would confine her to a room with food, water, a couple of litter boxes and some toys.  Fill the litter boxes with Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract Cat Litter and you can purchase this at Petsmart.  I have used this in the past and it works really really well.  I would do this for a week or until she is using the boxes at all times.  I hope this helps.  Best of Luck

  4. She might have a bladder infection, take her to the vet to get checked out. BTW She is adorable!!!!!

  5. you could ask the vet you work for just a hey i have a quick question for ya? cat could be bit jealous of baby give the cat a lil extra love maybe some kitty treats. there has been a disturbance in the house ya know what are you doing bringing this new lil person in to the cats house did u get her permission?cats think they own everything jeez lol it may take time for cat to get over it.. then she may never get over it

  6. I had a mix of ragdoll/maine coon and when I met my husband she starting acting out in the same manner.  It is mostly like jealousy and she is acting out to get some attention.  You may want take her into your vet to double check she does not have a UTI but most likely it is jealousy.  Make sure that you continue to spend the same amount of time with her that you used to and hope that she bounces back but Maine Coons tend to be stubborn.

  7. When a cat uses some place other than the litter box, it's either a medical problem, in that it hurts to go so they want to go someplace softer, or it's a behavior problem. The cat could very well have sensed that there was a baby on the way back in January and started misbehaving to get more attention.

If she's always going in the same (wrong) place, either move her litter box there or put a second one there. Make sure you're keeping it clean. Make sure you watch the cat really closely around the baby, because cats can carry diseases (not that yours does, but..) that adults can't get but can harm babies. Also, cats can really misbehave and have been known to hurt or even smother babies out of jealousy. Again, not that yours would, but I just wanted to let you know in case you didn't.

Your kitty is beautiful. I bet she's fun to brush! Oh, and make sure you give the cat a little more attention than you used to, so she doesn't feel that she's been replaced. Cats are paranoid like that.

  8. You want to get her checked out by the vet.  Cats who suddenly start going everywhere but the litterbox are probably having pain or something when trying to go potty.  They begin to associate the pain with the litterbox and will stop going in there.  A few years ago my cat had a urinary tract infection and started doing this, but as soon as it was treated and she felt better, she started using the box again.

  9. Like everyone is telling u. Let ur cat c the vet. Make up an opointment for ur cat. I hope ur cat feels better! Really I do.
