Question:

What is wrong with my central air conditioner?

About two days ago, I started hearing a squeeking noise from the attic part of the system. It got louder the next day, so I turned the unit off. When I turned it back on, the outside unit came on, but no air flowed through the vents and the attic part did not come on. Any idea what happened? Thanks for all who reply ASAP!

  1. sounds like a bearing worn or some thing has worn enough to cause friction and is now tight enough to stop the unit.have it serviced,is it old?

  2. sounds like the blower motor is out

  3. You probably blew the fuse in the air handler. The motor is probably bad so it caused extra strain on the unit which blew the fuse.

  4. It could be a number of things but I'm thinking the compressor.

  5. Either the blower motor has failed or the blower wheel has fallen apart, you need to go check it out with the power off. turn the blower wheel by hand and see what is up.

  6. The bushings in the motor are drying out.Shut the power off, take the panel off and spray wd-40 on the lower part of the shaft and manually spin it.Put the panel back on and start it up and you may be able to buy some more time till you replace the motor.Good luck.

Really saturate it with wd-40 and it will probably work.

  7. Your fan motor inside the attic unit has bad bearings, and needs to be replaced.

  8. Either the blower motor is out or the belt has broken and needs to be replaced.
