Question:

What is wrong with my computer??

Every time I pull up the internet it goes away almost immediately, and I get a pop up that says "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000012d) Click on OK to terminate the application.

Whenever I try to open iTunes or Spybot, I get a popup that says "The paging file is too small for this operation to complete."

I also keep getting popups that say that I'm low on virtual memory. What is virtual memory anyway?? What is going on??

  1. It's that time... Reinstall Windows.

  2. When you run out of RAM Windows uses a portion of your hard drive as if it were RAM the warnings are because your hard drive is full or you page file it set too small.

    Run disk cleanup

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools

    Increase your pagefile:

Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Advanced > Virtual Memory > Set max to 800MB

  3. try doing this...

    1) go to "start" on the bottom left of your screen

    2) click on "control panel"

    3) open "internet options"

    4) when that window opens up, you should see a bunch of different buttons you can click on.  click the one that says "delete" under the "browsing history" section of that box

that should help out your memory.  everytime you visit a website, your pc saves a 'picture' of it so that it can load faster if you ever visit that page again...imagine how many pages you click on per day, a lot!  if you do this every once in a while, you should be fine.

as for the internet "failing to initialize",  i would just make sure that you are rebooting your computer at least once every two days or so.  also, make sure that you are up to date with all updates for your system...you know, those annoying pops from microsoft, update manager, etc.  those are actually GOOD and help to ensure your computer has everything it needs to perform with any new updates that have been made to your system.

  4. Virtual memory is what allows you to run multiple applications. Its very cheap now and days and not hard to install. And if your scared your going to hurt your computer, if you have Vista you can take a flash drive and convert it into RAM. But its not a virus. Go to CDW.com and search Laptop or Desktop Memory, whichever you have.
