Question:

What is wrong with my computer?

So when I try to open Camtasia Studio (a screen recording program), it doesn't open and same for another program, TeamSpeak" (like Skype). But all the other programs work which makes me think it is not a virus.

But what is concerning me is that after I open the program/s, it's process name appears on the task manager

e.g.

CamtasiaStudio.exe

and after that, any program that I open will not open, and their process name would still be on the task manager. And if you want to shut down your computer after that, IT DOESN'T. YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE POWER BUTTON FOR 5 SECONDS!! OMFG!

Someone please help me on what the problem could be.

  1. It sounds like an ugly virus and or spyware infection, or possibly invalid/corrupted OS files, or something along those lines.

Try running the System File Checker (you may need the installation CD of your OS) by going to Start, Run, and typing "SFC /scannow" or "SFC/scannow" and your system should automatically begin the System File check. If it finds any problems, you'll have to put your installation CD in, and it will replace any damaged or corrupted OS files that may be causing the problems.

Try running a Check Disk, chances are this won't help out too much, but if you're having serious problems like that, then it may be very helpful and will correct errors on your disk. Again go to Start, Run, and type in "chkdsk" and your computer will automatically begin the check.

Try defragging your hard drive. I use AusLogics Disk Defrag (www.auslogics.com), because it's free and seems to function a lot better than the standard Window's Disk Defragmenter. If anything it will make the job of finding and executing files and processes much easier on your computer, fragmented files are bad.

Download and run CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com), and use it's built-in Registry Cleaner. It will get rid of old, invalid, corrupt, or even malicious Registry entries. Don't forget to back your registry up before making permanent changes to it.

Reboot and try again. If you're still having the same problems, you may want to try a System Restore, to go back to before you were having problems. You can do this by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and clicking System Restore. Go to the most recent System Restore Point that you or your computer made before you began having problems. Restore and reboot, and try again.

Hopefully this will fix your problems. I recommend running a virus and spyware scan and deleting anything that they find as well. If you don't have these programs already, a good free Anti-Virus is BitDefender Free Edition, and a good free Anti-Spyware is SUPERAntiSpyware Free Home Edition.

    Good luck.
