What is wrong with my guinea pigs?

Ok, I got two female guinea pigs for Christmas. They both trust me, and will eat out of my hand and all, but they are sooooooo affraid to be touched at all. let alone picked up. Why is this? Could they be affraid to be touched because of something that happened to them before I got them? It is kind of depressing when I can't even pet my own animals. haha. And if they are like traumetized what could I do to make them not affraid to be pet and picked up?

it depends where they came from maybe they were abused or neglected in some way and are just discovering that people can be trusted just lightly pet them and talk to them, be patient they will come around

A lot of guinea pigs are skittish anyways and don't like to be picked up. Just spend time with them as much as you can, let them keep eating out of your hand and get used to you. It could take many more months of that so they feel really comfortable with you.

Another thing, if you got them in a pet store, they could be pregnant. That happened when I got mine, and she had babies a couple weeks later. They can sometimes be moody or not want to be handled during their pregnancy.

Either way, with lots of love and care and getting used to each other, they'll come around eventually. Good luck with your little piggies. =]

well sometimes some pets stores abuse their animals. so they grow up being scared of humans.

well guinea pigs hear more better then seeing. what you should try doing is singing to them or talk to them softly and low when you approch them.of course their going to get scared if they see a huge hand coming towards them wouldnt you?

so what you should do is sing or talk and take away their houses before picking them up so like that they know your there and will be less frighten. give them about 10-15 min before picking them up.

then in about a couple of days or weeks thell get use to it and will look forward on getting picked up.
