We had our landscaping put in this past May. My hydrangeas never really took off but they have bloomed...and as soon as they bloom they look like they get burned and shrivel up. What could be the problem?

  1. They really have only 2 growth spurts. One in spring and another in fall. They kinda hang out and endure the summer heat - which we have now.

Morning sun is best and late afternoon can cause the burning. They also are water hogs with late sun and will droop. But come next morning and the temps are not so hot they should perk up again. If they are still drooping in the morning then they need water.

The not growing right now is the season and I think your judging them too quick as they are relatively new and just getting settled in.

Watering during the day and the leaves wet - the water droplets act like magnifying glasses to the leaves and can cause the burn effect

  2. Hydrangea's love water!  They also thrive with at least partial sun.
