Question:

What is wrong with my molly?! She keeps getting whitespot but no one else has it!?

I have a black balloon molly named Midnight, along with some platies, guppies, danios, tetras, and loaches. Midnight and her sister got whitespot (don't know how) so I half-treated the tank (had to half-treat coz of the tetras and loaches). Midnight's sister recovered but Midnight still had it.

Deciding to isolate her so I could fully dosage her, I put her in the isolation tank and after a week she was fine. I put her back in the main tank, but within a few hours she was covered in whitespot again! None of the other fish had it.

So again she went in isolation. Again, after a week, she was fine. Again, I put her back in the main tank. Again, she got whitespot. And again, no one else had it.

So this went on for about six weeks. All the while, I continued to half-dosage the main tank. Someone please tell me what the heck is going on? Why does she keep getting whitespot when no one else is getting it? Is the only way to save her little fishy life to keep her permanently in isolation?

Please help. Thanks.

  1. Mollies are more susceptible to it that other fish. Maybe your little one is more sensitive than the others. Clean out your main tank. Empty the water, put the fish in a bucket and really clean in out. Or keep the little fishie by herself.

  2. feel a bucket with salt water put her in the net and dip her in and out that should get rid of anything ekkie and just put a pinch of slat in the tank but not to much

  3. not sure what is going on, make sure you keep some aquarium salt in your tank..it should keep it cleared up..my fish got ick and that is all i added and it was gone in like 2 days, plus mollys prefer salty water..Also make sure you use aquarium salt and just use the dosage on the back of the box, i think its like 1 tbs per 10 gal of water..
