Question:

What is wrong with my portable A/C?

It has a mechanism that sprays condensed water onto the condenser fins, eliminating the need to empty a water bucket (except in very humid climates, and I live in a dry climate). It worked exactly like it was supposed to for a year.

Lately though, the water bucket has been filling up every two days. The weather is the same as it usually is for August. Cooling capacity seems to be the same. Something has gone wrong with the A/C though, but I don't know what?

  1. The head pressure is lower and your are not evaporating the water at a fast enough rate. Not sure why though.Several causes.

Or maybe the heat transfer is not the same due to the mineral buildup on the condenser.I just thought of that and that could also be the cause.

  2. Check for a plugged pick up line or nozzle on the spray mechanism. Dust and other junk tends to accumulate in condenser water and this commonly clogs 1/2" drain drain lines on standard A/C units so it may well have blocked one of the smaller orifices in your spray unit.

  3. If you saved the manuals that came with the appliance that is the first place to go since the people who made the product know the equipment well!
