The refrigerator side is getting warmer and freezer side is frosting up (it’s a 1 year-old whirlpool, non-frosting type)

  1. email whirlpool

  2. Sounds like your fan isn't working or the passage is blocked.  Today's fridges chill the freezer and then blow the cold air into the fridge section to cool it.  If the fan isn't working or the passage is blocked (often by ice), then no cold air gets to the fridge section.  Since the freezer still gets cold, the thermostat still works and the compressor is working, too.

If it's still under warranty, have Whirlpool fix it, if not, the fan is usually fairly inexpensive and is easily installed by someone with a little mechanical experience (all you need to do is unplug the fridge, take off the covers, and put in the new fan).

If you're lucky, you just have some ice in the passage.  Just remove it and everything should be OK....
