Question:

What is wrong with my running form?

Okay, this is what happens. When I am running and look down at my feet, my right foot lands on the center line of my body, but my left foot lands to the left, approximately in line with left hip. When I try to force the left foot to land center, I start running a little bit rightwards (I basically begin "sidestepping" when I force left to center because it insists on being left-of-center). Remarkably, I have no balance issue running with my left foot to the left. I can even land it outside the left foot, and still run straight. But when I try to put the left foot center and have the right foot land right of center (the opposite of what is happening), I completely am out of balance.

Basically, if LH=Left Hip, RH=Right Hip, L=Left Leg, and R= Right Leg, this is how I run:

L R

LH-RH

That's how my feet land, looking down. Left leg at the left hip, right leg at center of body. Why?

  1. I would suggest you go to a running store, like New Balance, where they often have experts on-site who can watch you run and analyse your form.  Sometimes they even have sophisticated equipment with which they can film you running and pinpoint exactly what's happening.  I've seen people doing this at marathon expos too, so if there's a marathon in your city you could check out the expo and see if they have something like that there.
