Question:

What is wrong with my shoulder??

I went to the hospital today for investigations on my shoulder - an arthroscopy and an MRI. While I was having the arthroscopy the nurse asked the consultant if he was taking multiple images and the consultant said sometimes they can tell from one image wether a tear is there and they didn't need to take any more images before the MRI (I'm not sure if this means he saw or didn't see a tear)

I was handed a form which said MDI present, surgery recommended before I went to the MRI. It wasn't my consultant who did it, this was just for investigation, I wont know the results for another 3 weeks

  1. MDI -multi directional instability.

its hard to say really he could be referring to a tear on the rotary cuff. - the muscles which hold the shoulder stable - easy fixed with an op.

i had a bone impingement which required extensive surgery to repair as the bone had to be shaved.

if it is a rotor cuff tear your looking at a key hole op with minimal recovery time

  2. MDI stands for Multi Directional Instability, and refers to a shoulder that slips out of the joint.  Your doctor will be able to give you more information about this condition
