So i bought a tetra submersible heater to heat my 10 gallon tank with my turtle. The only problem is that it has never once turned on! The little LED has never even once turned on. The heater is fully submersed. is my heater broken or am i just not setting it up right? Also what other heaters would u recomend for a 10-20 gallon tank for my painted turtle.

  1. Is your water heating up? LED on heaters usually only go on when it is heating the water and that could be any time of the day. An easy way to check if it's working is to measure the temp. Get a thermometer and if the water hasn't heated at all since you put the heater in, the heater is probably broken. Also check what temp it is set at, some cheaper heaters will heat the water +/- 4-6 degrees of what you set it too.

The heater I used for my turtles is the Marineland shatter proof aquarium heater. I have 3 of these and all of them work great, but they are more expensive than the tetra heaters. I like them because i don't have to worry about them cracking or exploding if they float to the top, they seem well built and keep my tanks at a constant temp.
