  1. what today?

ryan air is removing some of its planes even though the bussiness is doing very well

also fears there is no long going to be cheap flights

  2. Nothing, They have to survive to serve us and no funding from the Govts. hence it is common.

  3. The price of petrol is wrong with airline industry

  4. my opinion is people checking luggage at the gate and bringing luggage on board.  it takes time to stow this and delays alot of flights

  5. theyre all going bankrupt because of these gas prices

some of them combine into one airline to protect themselves from bankrupcy

  6. Personally I would say that the travelling public is the problem. Everyone wants to save money, so they go for the lowest price. Thats the foundation of business and competition... but that's not how it always was in the airline industry. The birth of cost-cutter/discount airlines means that the bigger companies have to really cut down on expenses in order to compete. This leads to personell cutbacks, luxury cutbacks, safety cutbacks, and making employees work harder for less pay.

Where in 20-30 years ago if there was a problem with baggage handling, an airline could simply take some of its millions in profits and hire more baggage handlers and train them better.

Today, with profit margins so thin (if any, most US carriers are losing money) all the company can do is write a letter of apology and a 100 dollar cheque to the lost-luggage owner. Then, a lost-baggage report is placed in a huge pile where it is never read because the guy who is supposed to read it is the same guy who has to single handedly schedule all the flights in/out of that airport... and the company can't afford to hire him any help!

The airline industry just isn't what it used to be...

  7. The cost of running ,the safety of passengers, the cost of security personal due to 911,and the high gas prices that are only expected to go higher.

  8. Fly B, you absolutely nailed it!!!!

The traveling public is the problem.  There is no loyalty from consumers to a particular airline, it is always what airline has the lowest cost.  I'm definitely not condemning people for picking the lowest fare, that's just how business works.  The part that the public doesn't understand, however, is if you want to pay nothing for your ticket, expect nothing in return.  Why exactly do people think that they should be able to fly from San Diego to New York for 200 round trip and be served a meal and possibly upgraded to First Class?  How the h**l much do people think it would cost to drive?  If it costs more to drive than to fly, you're getting a huge bargain.  BTW, flying is a premium mode of transportation, last time I checked, premium costs more than regular.

Because of airlines like southwest offering $49 fares one way to places, people have begun to think of flying as a right, instead of a service.  Flying used to be exclusive to business travelers and those with money.  Now, everyone can afford to fly.

When oil hit the fan, the only way for major airlines to compete is to cut "extras".  When extras get cut, people get pissed.  The other problem was the amount of airlines operating.  That has already decreased dramatically and more bankruptcies may follow.  This serves to drive up ticket prices and increase revenue to airlines.  I think the days of the $200 trans-con flights are done.  Either pay up, or drive!

  9. It's not about transportation anymore, it's about the $'s.

Very few companies truly make your trip affordable and enjoyable these days.  If you have the $$$$s then you can travel comfortably.  That just isn't right as this country is built on the backs of the working class.

Companies will also do whatever to save a buck, even if it means to not have proper equipment out there, and properly repaired or replaced.  Some of the fixing that is done are 'bandages' or 'cosmetic fixes'.  Ugh.

  10. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the airline industry. All of them are flying and obviously their heads are still above the water level. Fuel, however, is making all of them apprehensive and keeping their accounts departments working frantically to keep their airlines surviving.

  11. Price of fuel is VERY much a problem. If you knew how much they spend on fuel, or how much they use, you would understand. The word BILLIONS is the problem.

  12. so many problems nowadays w/ the rise of gas. many airlines are losing money in stock because airline companies have had to raise their ticket prices to keep up with the costs of gas and because of this, many people have stopped flying because it has become too expensive to fly. also, another problem seems to be with the incompetence of some airlines, i've heard reports that luggages have been delayed due to weight and some even get lost..why...i'm not sure but that too has become a problem
