This house was built back in 1964 It has been updated from a fuse box to a breaker box and my power went out in every room but one light was working and it was my ceiling fan and light the I didn't have to reset the breakers other wise I wouldn't be asking this question.

  1. It is very possible you have an incorrectly wired electrical panel. You NEED a qualified electrician to find out exactly HOW the wiring got crossed. The problem you have is likely to be the hot wire and neutral leads being swapped on one side of the 220 line coming into the house. This is VERY DANGEROUS and you need the services of a qualified expert! NOW!

  2. Need more info.

    1. After the breaker box was changed did you have any electrical problems?

    2. When did you first notice that "power went out in every room but one"?

    3. Go to the circuit breaker box and turn off EACH circuit breaker, then turn each one back one.

    Eric

  3. your electrician sux!!! Call him back and get him there ASAP because your wiring was done incorrectly!

  4. The main breaker in your breaker box is actually 2 breakers connected by a bar that also serves as the on/off handle. It is possible that one side of the breaker tripped, shutting off half your house. Recycle the main breaker by turning it off, then back on. If this corrects the situation, OK, but you still have a problem.

If the panel was wired incorrectly, as your description indicates, you will have to get an electrician in to rewire the panel.

  5. Turn off the main breaker SO THE PLACE DOES NOT BURN TO THE GROUND. Get the electrician back out ASAP to fix it. If he does not respond immediately. Contact your state and note your options.

  6. Only thing I can add to what you have already is this.

Long time ago wife and I bought a house just like the one you say you have now, same age.

We lived in the house for about a year, with no problems.

One day we lost all of our lights and wall plugs with out a breaker being thrown.

    What I found was this.

When they wired the house they used acid core soldier, The main circuit from the breaker box went to four light switches located at our front door, then to the rest of the house.

The wires at these switches had been twisted and soldiered.

over time these connections had corroded, causing us to loose all the power in the house.

I cleaned the corroded wires and re-soldiered them with resin core soldier.

You just may have a problem like this would not hurt to check it out.
