  1. I really don't know why we are but sympathise with you with the kids been stuck in, mine are the same, yesterday was the first real day we could go out so we went the park and fed the ducks and it was just so nice to be out of the house and my son even thanked me for taking him out..bless him !!

  2. Hello,

(ANS) Unfortunately, the fact that we are seeing yet another very wet and disappointing i.e. cloudy summer period this year in 2008 reflects what I believe to be a more long term trend here in the UK. If I am correct we've had a very similar summer to 2007 with lots of heavy rain & flooding last year. Its part of a longer wider trend in my view.

NOTE:- Wetter summer months with short periods or days of intense hotter temperatures are a general trend which reflects the impact of real & present climate change in this country.

**Most of the weather we get here in the British Isles is due to affected by our proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. Our weather comes mainly from a westerly direction from Atlantic depressions, i.e. areas of low pressure which have picked up moisture from the ocean between the USA & UK. As Ireland & Britain are the first land fall for these systems they dump the rain on us.

**The UK is also at the end of the Jet Stream and this also influences our weather a great deal too. i.e. all year round. Also our climate & weather are influenced by the Gulf Stream which is a warm oceanic current that flows north west-wards from around the Gulf of Mexico to around the north western coasts of the UK i.e. Northern Ireland & Western Scotland.

**if the present trends continue our climate here in the UK will see yet more or increased heavy wet spells & more intense short spells of hot weather i.e. 70-80 degrees plus. Wet winters with no snow to speak of, i.e. warmer winters. The weather in GB seems to have almost come the same during all months of the year & I think this is definitely due to a generalized warming effect.

    Ivan.

  3. What we are getting is pretty normal really. It's just that for some reason in Britain our expectations never match up with the weather we actually get.

Strange how after a lifetime of living here you never get used to the weather and it always takes us by surprise.

  4. Hot doesn't mean no rain. In fact, if you have a lot of flatland around you, hot contributes to thunderstorm formation. It's still the hottest 2 months of the year, but it doesn't automatically make it the driest.

  5. We're on an island, surrounded by water. Lots of water + the global warming = lots of rain.

  6. Hardly summer at all is it?  Not fair!

  7. Summer time is associated with a high pressure system that should move from the african coast north to the "wet isles". Though for the past 2 years this system has stalled  and left us with atlantic lows blowing in hence the wet weather.

  8. Hey, put your wellies and waterproofs on and go have some fun.

  9. well do what my daughters doing .she sent all the family a text saying I am having a cheer up dinner..so that,s where i am going....
