I found a cat earlier today. In the several hours I have had him in my care he has not made a single noise. He hasn't hissed or made any kind of meow sound. He has not even opened up his mouth except to eat. Is he deaf / mute?

  1. It is very possible, or he i just very timid due to the life he has led.

Have you tried calling him from across the room? Does he turn for noises?

You would have to take him to a vet to be .sure

  2. He's probably frigthened...it's just like you going someplace new...your sort of scared. Give it some time. If nothing seems to have progressed then you should take him to the vet.

  3. eating and drinking are great signs for health. Keep seperated from your other pets until you see a vet. Thanks for the rescue.

  4. i once had a cat, a calico, who i swear only heard make a noise twice in her lifetime.  She never hissed, meowed or anything!! Some cats are weird like that.  If the cat is eating, drinking and acting normal otherwise, it is happy.  try to shake a can of trats and see if it comes running lol.

  5. I have had many cats / kittens over the last few months (rescued) and not all of them have made noise. I have a 13 week old kitten right now that I never hear cry. I also have a 5 month old that doesn't "talk" either. I would say that nothing is wrong but if you are concerned then you should take him to the vet. Thanks for helping a cat in need...there are many of them. Good Luck!

  6. Take him to the vet. He'll need a check up anyways, and the vet will be the most qualified to tell you seeing as we cant see the cat.

  7. yah, take him to the vet. idk. i guess hes ok if hes acting normal.

  8. It's possible nothing's wrong. Some are talkers, some are not.

The kitty that adopted me came trotting up the middle of the highway like he owned it, right over to my sidelined car. He had attitude to boot and Only talked when he was sick or something was wrong-- maybe a handful of times, in the 13 years he was with me. He was Crazy intelligent-- learned toilet training and would fetch. He just decided when, and where he would speak.

Like all the other advice, 1st thing I did was get him checked by a vet, and I would suggest you  do the same. It's always easier (& cheaper!) to fix problems sooner rather than later. Also have your new friend fixed-- it'll keep him calmer and curb both his aggression and wanderlust. You'll have a loyal and loving friend for being such a generous human.

Just last night we saw a poor cat laying in the middle of the road that someone had hit. It broke my heart...

Thanks a million for keeping one more safe!

    Good luck~

  9. feral cats rarely talk and i guess he doesn't feel threatened by you so no hissing. Does he allow you to touch him? If so then he wasn't even feral, he was abandoned and is submissive to you.

I ha a cat that said 2 words in 16 years. She talked with her eyes and expressions.

    Thanks for caring an rescuing

  10. let the vet get check up. Just tired or hungry. Wait that cat will response. How old is the cat? I'm also a cat lover, I adapted him when he was 3months old, now his 4yrs old.  Show all your love and you wont regret it. Have him neutered.
