Why is it ok for other people to work at a restaurant and not be judge?

I work at a restaurant 20- 25 hours a week making $10.00 an hour week and then I raise my two children. To me $10.00 an hour is good money. My husband works 40 hours a week + a part-time job which he wanted. Everyone is on my case on how I need to go back to school I'm only 24 I still have time. I am so sick and tired of everyone on my case about me getting my GED and going to school. On top of it I have no clue what so ever what I want to go to school for. I personally am happy what I am doing until my children start school. I am still working on my GED to have that. I am not lazy one at all and I'm not saying I don't want to work. My question is why do I need to rush into going to school for something I don't want to do and pay for? Are there any women out there that are in the same situationn I am in?

  1. I applaud you for working.  In our society many people are too lazy or too haughty to do a lot of the work that IS available.  Nobody has the right to judge you, but what bothers me is that it bothers YOU. I didn't go to study further directly after school, I traveled and waitered (amongst other odd jobs) for two years before enrolling in university.  It was harder to do it because I was older than most of my year. However, it did make me determined to work harder than them.  Point is if you post-pone going back to school, you are likely to end up never returning to school.

As for the money you said: "To me $10.00 an hour is good money."

That is roughly $1000 a month, I work abroad now and earn nearly the equivalent of four times that amount.  The average U.S. household income in 2006 was $4000, for doctorates that rose to just shy of $7000 a month.

I know you've got kids, but your husband seems to be bustin' his hump to make enough money for the family.

You seem smart, and as a smart person you must realize that people are on your case because they care about you and want you to live the most fulfilling life you can, and that makes you lucky!

Don't be scared, h**l I am not doing what I spent four years studying, but I use what I learnt almost daily!

    Go. Do it.

You never know,  it could be the most rewarding thing you have done for yourself.

P.S. I didn't write the for the points - I wrote this for YOU.

Apologies if I sound too sanctimonious.

Good Luck in whatever you decide!

  2. I think the reason ppl keep telling you not to work at a restaurant is because its good as a part time job or a job for extra jobs which is why young ppl waitress since they don't have a degree yet but need the cash. But you have kids to feed and bills to pay and you're husband seems to be taking more upon himself when you could be helping out more financially. You're working half the hours he is and bringing in less money. If you complete your GED and at least go to a community college (you could take classes online) and get atleast an associates degree you could be qualified enough to work at a corporate office as an administrative assistant or secretary or something which pays much more plus you get good benefits. Don't settle for less $10 an hour is good money for teens who are saving up to buy clothes and stuff not for a mother of two.  If you're not lazy get to business and get your GED as soon as possible and start taking night classes or something at a community college if you don't want to attend 4 year university. Good luck.

BTW you don't need to major in anything specific. You could be an undeclared major and try different things out. Maybe try buisness/ business management so you could be manager of a food chain or restaurant.

  3. no

  4. It sounds like the people who care about you are just concerned about your future.  But I guess if you're happy with your life then that's all that matters.

  5. You need to tell everyone to go **** themselves. Just like that.

Tell them to get out of your business.

All that matters is that your happy, you dont need to change your lifestyle for someone else.

Im 19, i did graduate from high shcool. But seriously i do not want to go to college. Such busy life, you get no chance to enjoy life.

    Live,love freedom~
