You can post a question about Yahoo or any other topic. Then you wait to see if someone answers your question. To start, at the top of the screen under the Yahoo! Answers logo are three gree buttons, "ask," "answer," and "discover." If you want to ask a question, click ask and follow the prompts. If you want to see the questions others have asked, click "discover." Most of the questions on the main page area are pretty stupid, but if you look on the left of the discover page, there are categories for questions. At the bottom of the list is Yahoo Products, which is where most people post questions about how to use various Yahoo features. If you click this link, you see a discover page with questions that are more specific to Yahoo. If you want to help someone out, click the "answer" button at the top of the page and you can answer his/her question. Hope this helps! Good luck!

When you join you are given 100 points.

If you ask a question, it costs you 5 points.

If you answer someone else's question, you are given 2 points.

If your answer is judged best by the asker or voters, you are given 10 points.

Points are worth nothing except bragging rights.

There are many, many categories of questions, so browse around a little.

Earning more points gets you to higher "levels" which allows you to vote, and to ask and answer more questions.
