  1. Yaw is rotation about the Z axis, which is perpendicular to the longitudinal [X (roll)] and lateral [Y (pitch)] axes.

[The Z axis is vertical only when bank angle and longitudinal angle are both 0º].

  2. WHEN THEY USE THE RUDDER.

so it sort of 'swivels' at the center of gravity.

  3. It's what you hear when the pilot is really tired from working for the past 2 weeks straight, just before you vmc roll into the ground...

  4. Imagine a line running through the very center of the aircraft vertically, from the top of the roof through the underside. Horizontal movement around this line from left to right and the reverse is yaw. Yaw is controlled by the rudder pedal in an aircraft. If I want the nose of the aircraft to move to the left (yaw left), I push on the left rudder pedal, conversely with the right.

  5. Yaw is rotation of the aircraft to the left or right of it's flight line. The other rotations are pitch, up and down with respect to the flight line, and roll, around the flight line. The more correct way to define yaw is rotation about an axis vertical to the fuselage, but that's more complex to understand.

  6. Rotation around the vertical axis.  This movement is controlled by the rudder.
