it is the day where we fast from all substances (food and drink) wear only white and no leather, perfumes, makeup jewelry and ask for the forgiveness of our Sins and transgressions against man.

it is when we are then inscribed in the book of life if we succede in being forgiven by G-d.

to prepare for Yom Kippur we must approach those we have transgressed in the past year and ask for forgiveness. if they refuse us we can ask 2 more times (total of 3) as this shows an effort on our part to be forgiven. after 3 times we are automaticly forgiven for the sin.

Yom Kippur is one of a group of Holidays called the High Holidays. other holidays in this group are Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret, Rosh Hashannah, and Simchat Torah.
