  1. I like it and I'm glad I moved here but if I could I'd be off like a shot back to my old country.

I'm just sick to death of the whining coming from Quebec and the government at all levels pandering to the French whilst the Quebec government and any French group can ride roughshod over English rights.  I'm tired of the thought police telling me that multiculturalism is a good thing and that being in a bi-lingual country is just swell.

This is a great country with loads of potential but it is all squandered on the alter of political correctness and regionalism.  Which is why Canada remains the Boy Scout in the Motorcycle Gang of nations and she will never reach her full potential until thepoliticians at the Federal level stop pandering to the special interests and just get the job done.

  2. I have been to Canada many times and have enjoyed my time there.  The people are nice and don't seem to hate Americans.  Canada is BEAUTIFUL and very clean.

  3. Like it very much, I have family and friends up there in various areas. Canadians overall are very friendly.

  4. A barbarian country that kills 270.000 innocent baby seals in one season, as they're doing now.

  5. Hey Charlie, I kill kittens with a club. What do ya think of that?

  6. Five myths about Canada you need to know about!

    1. Free health care.

Canada's health care is not free. It is funded by a heavy tax

regime that takes hard earned money from even the working poor. If

you make $C20,000 a year. You will be taxed. Make more? Like $C75,000

and up? Oh, you can bet you will get hit with taxes. In some

provinces like Alberta, you also get the additional privilege of

paying health care "premiums" on top of your taxes.

The big hospital unions like the Registered Nurses and various

so-called "para-professionals" have taken over the health care

system and destroyed it. This is what happens when you create a

a monopoly, and worse, a government owned monopoly.

    2. High standard of living

Huh? Since when? This country has one of North America's biggest

drug ghettos. It's called Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Canadians

have a lower per capita GDP than Americans. They also make less

money than Americans, and ironically many other countries: Ireland,

Germany, Switzerland to name just a few.

    3. Peaceful

Nope! There are just as many acts of violent crime, drug gangs,

domestic murders in Canada as in the U.S. It's just never adjusted

for per capita, ie. the actual population of the two countries

and the size of the cities in each country. Canada has serial

killers, drug shootings, pollution, gang violence. How come we don't

hear much about this in the world's media, the way the U.S.'s

    problems are constantly brought up?

    4. Strong economy

No! Canadians just piggyback off the U.S. economy and they still

can't manage to get their unemployment rate down to anywhere near

to the U.S. rate, which was hovering in the low 5's most recently.

Canada's rate has varied over the last decade or more from 11% to

a low of about 7%. The country just sells off its raw natural

resources rather than having a productive economy through

strong innovation or research. Yet the Canucks complain about

selling those resources to the U.S. Huh?

    5. Canadians are polite self effacing and humble

Whoa! Canadians are anything but polite and "European" as they

like to tell the world. Most Canadians I've met are ignorant,

boorish, self absorbed anti-American bigots. Go to a Canadian

workplace: see how they treat you, especially if you are a brown

    or black person.

Go to a restaurant or a store. The tone is very cold and "British"

in nature. Look at how they drive. I have driven in Britain, the

U.S. (San Diego, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Seattle area).

Nowhere have I seen such stupid backward drivers as I have seen

    in B.C. and Alberta.

Basically Canada needs to have its huge pompous self absorbed ego

deflated. Canadians are hypocrites and they love to be delusional,

and self absorbed about how great they are. The U.S. incidentally is the

country where a lot of Canadians, (about 100,000 at last count), go

to live well, retire and of course, for employment. Hypocritical or

    what?

  7. America's peeping tom.

  8. I am American and I LOVE Canada with all my heart.  I had an amazing time in Ottawa where I got to see the Museum of Civilisation, and the Gallery of Art, and a choir concert done by the Newfoundland choir of Ottawa.

It's really cool how Ottawa has Shawarmas everywhere.  I also love the appearance of the Parliament building, mixing the English and French.   I went into bookstores and had deep intellctual conversations.

I only wish I had more Canadian friends in the states though, I love Canadians and I can't find too many of them, so the people around me get tired of listening to me rant on about how much I love Canada.  But I'm not sorry I pride myself over your country, it's the best!

  9. I just did this answer to a similar question, and it also applies to yours .. here it is, with some additions ..

I love the fact that we are a relatively laid back country, not overly stressed, with good health care, good social programs, good education system, low crime rate, a reasonable cost of living, and one of the best standards of living in the world. I love our geography, our CBC, our diversity, our multiculturalism and our bilingualism (though I am unilingual English but I have never been held back from anything I wanted to do in life because of that, and I have done just fine).

I am reaching the point in my life where I really do not like our winters and I really do not want to shovel anymore snow. So I am sometimes one of those Canadians who spends winter in more southern climes. But our spring, summer and fall is awesome.

For the most part, people anywhere are just people, mostly friendly and kind and good. Life anywhere is what you make it, and Canada cannot make anyone happy or satisfied with their lives. Unhappy people will be unhappy whereever they go. So if you can take life as you find it, and if you realize that happiness and contentment come from within you and not from where you are, then do come to Canada. It is a wonderful place to live, and you will be most welcome.

And we do not kill any baby seals.  The previous poster has very outdated and incorrect information.  Best of luck.

  10. Well, it all depends on where you go, who you're with, and what you do while you're there. I went a couple summers ago with a huge group and it was so much fun!! That probably was because there were so many people there who I got along with but the stuff we did was fun too. We did so much stuff that I honestly can't remember it all.

My opinion of Canada: I'd love to go back. It's cool, but there are a lot of variables.

  11. Canada is one of the best (Clean,Safe,World's Most Beautiful Landscapes,Great Nation etc) countries in the world.Canadian society is defined by its diversity. We continue to learn from the rich history of First Nations and we have always been strengthened by the dynamic relationship between Anglophones and Francophones. Canada is a young society, one that is still being shaped by immigration from the entire world, making us a nation where language, religion and ethnic background are not a source of conflict, but one of understanding and unity.I love my country....I'm Canadian and I'm proud of it :)
