The last practice I had for cross country I ran at a pace that is a slow jog compared to all the other kids(my first year) but then when there's like a half mile to go I can sprint I don't walk like some of the kids so I know I'm doing somewhat good, but I think the coach was like whoa why did you run in the back then run really good? What's your pace like?Should I run not so slow and then still try to sprint at the end?

  1. I actually need to work at sprinting at the end of my cross country races. Congrats on not walking like the other kids, I have found that if you walk it's almost impossible to do as good as you were doing when you start running again because you become more tires. But back to your question. You should pick up your pace some more since you have enough energy to sprint a half mile which is good, but not needed. You should deff. sprint at the end but not half a mile. This sprinting process should only be 100 meters. If you do this I think you'll become one of the fast runners on the team and be upfront a little more but not left with zero energy.

I went out too fast last year as a freshman, tiring myself out and each mile became even slower! :O This year as a sophomore I am not going too.

  2. I run pretty slow compared to everyone else too. You just have to find a pace comfortable for you and that's good that you conserved energy and didn't walk. Good job

  3. what event? mile, or what. different runners have different paces. most though stay in the middle of the pack, and the last 400m or so they make a move and sprint.
