I want to get my almost 4 month old into a sleep/feed/play routine. I need some examples please. how long for each one? I have heard babies this age should not be awake longer than 2 consecutive hours at a time and then I have heard they should only have 2 sleeps during the day? I can't seem to work out how that works out!! Anyway, would like some examples, please be detailed. thanks

  1. My daughter is 3 1/2 months old and is into a prtty good routine her self.  She usually wakes up every morning around 6 am and eat 4oz and plays on her mat on the floor for about an hour and ahlaf before she gets hungry and tired again so somewhere between 8-9am I give her 2 oz and lay her back down.  She sleeps until about 11-12 and then takes another 4 oz.  Then she's playing or with me.  She takes her next nap around 4pm with another 4oz of milk.  She sleeps for an hour or two, until daddy gets home pretty much and then she is up with us watching t.v. and playing on her mat or in her jumper or bouncer or swing until 8-9 when she decided she wants to sleep.  So another 4 oz and off to her crib.  She usually cries for like 20 minutes in there until she falls asleep. (She just now started to sleep in her crib because Im getting ready to go back to work and she keeps me up all night moving in our bed).  She sleeps really well in her crib and waks at about 3-4am for her nightly feeding which can be anywhere from 2-4oz.

Hope this helped out.  She seemed to make her ouw routine and I am glad she does it.  The morning from 6-8am is the best time because she will play by herslef and that gives me time to shower and clean up the house.  Good Luck!

  2. When my son was four months old, I heard from numerous people that he should be taking 2 2 hour naps a day, AND sleeping through the night. That didn't work for my baby. At 4 months, he was a pretty good sleeper. He woke up at about 8 AM, took a nap around noon-3 then went to sleep at 8PM. During most nights, he would wake up 1-2 times and cry for his bottle, but as soon as I gave it to him he went right back to sleep. I used to give him a warm bath around  7 PM to make him sleepy. As soon as he got out I gave him his bottle and he went right to sleep (usually).

As for feeding, I gave him rice cereal for breakfast..then he would eat 4 oz of formula every 3 hours or so. So he'd eat cereal at 8, a bottle at 11, nap, bottle at 3, bottle at 6, bath, then bed w/ a small bottle [maybe 3 oz.]. Then he'd usually wake up for a bottle at about midnight-1..and SOMETIMES but rarely at 5ish.
