What is your MAIN interest in getting and giving stars? Are they being used more for the asker or responder?

I personally use them for tracking and notification purposes while a question is open. How important are the stars to the people getting them, AFTER question is resolved?

  1. They have no value to the people getting them.http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/answers...

If I rate a question with a star it is to help the answerer get more views to their interesting question, or I don't know the answer and want my contacts to see the question because they may know the answer.

  2. I give them to interesting questions that I'd like my contacts to see and maybe answer.  I also give them to questions I don't know the answer to...in the hope someone in my network does.  Sometimes I give them to questions with zero answers, so that hopefully somebody will answer them.

I don't think they mean much after the question is resolved...they are not worth points or anything.  I just hesitate removing stars from old questions because some people, apparently, do like to collect stars, and I don't want to offend.

  3. Why should I star a question?

Marking good questions with a star helps Answers surface the best content on the site. When a question gets a star, it’s automatically nominated to appear in the “Popular” list on the Answers home page. Answers’ Popular list gives insight into what the community thinks are the most interesting questions at any given point in time.

Answers’ Popular list is similar to Flickr's “Interestingness” feature and the “Hotlist” on del.icio.us where sharing popular content enriches the experience for the entire community.

Note: You can see the nicknames of people who gave a question a star. Listing other answerers who found a question interesting:

Helps the community learn about each other’s common interests.

Helps you connect to answerers with interests similar to yours.

  4. Getting stars:

The more stars I get, the more likely I would get more answers.

    Giving stars:

I give stars to interesting questions so my fans will be aware of them. If they are aware, they might answer those questions.

  5. just to get your contacts to look and answer! thats it!

  6. If I think it's interesting, if it's an avatar game or if I want my contacts to answer it.

If I want to track something I put it on my watchlist.

    = )

  7. I really havent thought about getting the stars..I usually hit the star button if I really think it was an interesting question or Joke...alot of people on here are so funny and  thought provoking..its something I do to let them know I thought it was very good...hope that helped!
