  1. My first reaction is that Fox is looking for stories like these.

My 2nd reaction is that were components to the story that were not included to give me a better idea of what's going on, i.e. for brevity and control things were omitted.

And finally, I've got a list of sites a mile long, and you linked me to one I didn't have! For the sake of putting this into some sort of appropriate context, you'd have to dig further, which most people won't.  I wouldn't take this on face value.  It doesn't seem like he's being singled out for his beliefs, but I might dig further if I have time today.

  2. If there is one person in the world left who doubts AGW they will have a story on Fox news.

  3. Sounds like he's getting potty, for one thing

"The Chronicle noted that Gray's views on global warming had become increasingly personal, with characterizations of former colleagues and students who disagreed with him as "medicine men" and a "Gang of Five" conspiring to promote the idea of man-made climate change".

These aren't appropriate comments for an Academician.

If he's joined the ranks of the denieristi then he would be a problem for any University.  We have one of them at the University of Missouri, and they're trying to figure out what to do with him.  It's fine for people to hold goofy views, but not if they want to teach them to students who paid a University good money to learn science.

Fox News are the folks who put the Moon Landing Hoax in the headlines, and they promote the Global Warming Hoax in a very similar way.    At the time there was a lot of hubbub from the conspiracy theorists "proving" that Fox was right about NASA murdering Christa McAuliffe and others to hide the truth.  Since then there has been discussion of the ethics of presenting that kind of tomfoolery as investigative journalism.  Those discussions are likely to continue long after Fox is forgotten.

It's kind of sad to see a man like this who in his time pioneered the use of computer models in atmospheric science reduced to such a sad state of affairs.  When he first announced that his models were not tracking with real time weather after he had modified them to adjust for Global Warming I was impressed by his integrity.  Seeing how that has since been modified to yet another neocon diatribe about how scientists are always wrong is depressing.  It's sad to see people use an old man in this way.

  4. William Gray, noted as an expert in forecasting hurricanes, has lately been spouting off on global warming, without sufficient scientific data to back him up.  He's also not a CSU Professor any more, but is "emeritus", ie retired.  And no longer in charge of doing the hurricane forecast.  So CSU took a very reasonable step.  From the article cited:

"In the fall of 2005, Gray passed lead authorship of the yearly hurricane forecasts to his former student Philip Klotzbach, but he continues to head the Tropical Meteorology Project at CSU.  CSU will continue to publicize Gray's yearly forecasts as long as they are co-authored by Klotzbach"

IE, they want the CSU professor officially in charge of the hurricane forecast to "sign on" and not have Gray use the hurricane forecasts, which are labeled as an official CSU document, as an excuse to ramble on about global warming.  Seems pretty reasonable to me.
