  1. i don't know

  2. Check with your local recycling company to make sure you know what they accept and what they don't.  Some people (in good conscience, mind you) want to throw everything that might possibly be recyclable into the recycling bins.

However, not all recycling companies accept all things.  It all depends on what they can sell to materials manufacturers, which is how they stay in business.

If your recycling company cannot sell, for example, certain types of plastics to the manufacturers, they have to sort the non-recyclables out and it ends up in the landfill anyway at the recycling company's expense.  This makes it more costly and time-consuming for recycling companies to continue doing their good work.

So check with your local recycler and keep the garbage out of the recycling!

  3. i just check stuff before i throw it away to make sure its recycleable

  4. Hi,

Use your local branch of Freecycle.co.uk to donate and receive free items that are no longer wanted by their current owner.

For families with children, sell and buy childrens' clothes at eg. nct nearly new or car boot sales. Also, check whether your local church or community group runs a childrens' clothing exchange, or why not set one up? At our local one you get 1 point per item you donate, and it costs you 1 point per item you take.

Compost your green waste and paper shreddings.

Regularly visit your tip!- you can get some fab stuff for little or no money. Most tips do not have any storage space, so have to landfill even reusable items in good condition.

Buy the hemp "green bags" that most supermarkets sell now and use these instead of carrier bags.

  5. If you don't know if/what your waste company accepts, call/email/check their web-site. Our local garbage company sends out a newsletter at least once a year to keep us informed of what they do & do not accept.

In springtime alot of communities have a "clean-up" day & offer recycling for household, as well as hazardous waste.  Call around or checkout the newspapers.  Sometimes they have info on where to take things that aren't accepted at their location. (Electronics, batteries, chemicals, etc.)

We pass clothing, toys, books, household items, yard & garden, garage items, (even cars!) to friends, family, charity groups and good old freecycle.com.

If you want things gone immediately, use the drop boxes in parking lots for clothing, shoes, linens, etc. Look around, they are everywhere.

Of course, you can be creative & re-use things for other than their intended purpose!

We also try NOT to use plastic bags, bottles, etc. The re-usable bags are great.

But for the sake of our planet, re-use,reduce & recycle!

  7. Re-use, Recycle, Resale

Donate gently used clothing, accessories, furniture, jewelry and household items to a resale place that donates it's proceeds to a notable charity.  It is usually tax deductible - like the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop.

Read a book and then pass it on...

Email instead of using paper, stamps, etc

Reuse bags from the stores you shop at
