Question:

What is your best tip to hit a 460 cc driver?

Thanks, for the solid shot tips. I love the 3/4 punch shots for the irons. I always said my best shot is coming out of trees and trying to keep it low. And, that is a similar shot. There were alot of winners there.

How about the 460cc driver. I use a Nike Ignite. It is so hard to be consistent. I did learn the harder I swing the further it will slice. But, a slow smooth swing usually doesn't go too far.

Any suggestions?

  1. Get a stiffer shaft, when you slice a driver its a sign that the shaft is too light to too whippy.  Make sure you keep your wrists as still as possible.

  2. Tee it high.  This forces a flatter swing plane which should help the slice.  My brother swings too steep and cannot hit it off a high tee. (pop ups)

  3. swing about 80% of your strength, widen your arc and stay behind the ball on impact.  sounds easy and too much right? hehehe well that how it is for drivers irregardless of head size

  4. Cut it down!  Cut it down!

Your Ignite should be 45-inches long.  Almost all 460 cc drivers are 45".  Some are 46" and 47"!  That is simply too long, even for most tour pros.  Last year, the average driver length on the PGA Tour was 44.5"!

Ask yourself why should you be swinging a driver longer than what the best players are using?  If they could keep a standard 45" or longer 47" monster in play, they'd use it, especially the shorter hitters.

Consistently problems often result when you don't find the sweet spot.  A shorter driver makes it easier to find the sweet spot.  You could even gain distance (on your average drives) with a 44" driver.

The first thing I do when I buy drivers is to cut them to 44"

  5. stand further from the ball by a inch this model 46 inch shaft . play the ball with all of it above the clubhead move ball forward one inch flatten swing plane . you will hit ball higher on the clbface  practice  few times then rip it . the length of the shaft is the major factor in loss of accuracy on oversized drivers  or grip down a inch

  6. have a slow controlled inside out swing ,and bend your spine slightly right

  7. How high are you teeing the ball.  Half the ball should be above the top of the club head so you can hit the ball with an upward motion.  You're slicing, so the club face is open at impact.  You have to sqare the club face and transfer your weight to your front foot.  It's all timing.

  8. GRIP IT AND RIP IT!!!!!

  9. Tee it up high enough so the ball is at the top 1/3 of clubface and hit the ball with a smooth strong swing.

  10. Make sure you make a full turn on your backswing so your chest is facing away from your target with a smooth tempo.  Then make sure your chest faces your target on your follow-thru.  Obviously it isn't that simple, but it can be a good swing thought.  And try to keep your head behind the ball at impact.

  11. just swing, the heads are so big these days that even stevie wonder could hit a decent shot

  12. Think of it as any club. Just move the ball more forward in your stance and have a controlled swing

  13. there's only 3 things that contribute to hitting the ball far.  Clubhead Speed, Angle of Approach, and Centeredness of Contact.

Try to focus on keeping the arms loose...but still making the clubhead swing fast.  Your slice comes from tension in your arms not allowing the clubhead to release and be square at impact.  So, basically... just grip it and rip it

  14. Smooth swing is the absolute best advice that i can give you. I carry a 5 handicap and I love the big head drivers. You accually don't want to tee it up too high because you might start to swing down at the ball and that creates side spin and a big slice. Or you'll come over the top and pull it left. I cannot emphasize the smooth part of the swing enough. Always finish on your left side (right handed) and take a swing like you're hitting the ball to right field in baseball and you'll get a lot more distance.

  15. change your shaft, if you swing too hard and you have a shaft thats regular its made for slower swings and shorter swing paths, and it will have a tendency to have a whipping action. if you do in fact like to swing hard, get a still shaft s65. slow smooth swings always work indeed, just takes longer to get there! haha

  16. make sure both your arms are stiff as can be and extend them to the fullest.(this is if the club is normal flex)  then create a fast paced motion back and forth.(if your body moves that is ok)  It takes a while to get used to but cuts down on slice after practice

  17. The big headed drivers suck...
