What is your country of origin? And how do you feel your accent is different from other countries in the UK?

The vast majority of those in the US have ancestors that are from Ireland, Scotland and England. To a lesser extent there has also been emmigrants from every other country too. However, unlike the UK (AU, NZ) the US doesn't continue to have a Anglo accent.

I would love for some input regarding if we Americans sound like a variation of an ango-accent to those outside the US, or???

  1. I am from England and have moved about quite a lot - My original cockney accent is much modified as in England we have accent changes every fifteen miles and cant always understand each other as there are so  many localisms. There must be hundreds of words for sports shoes- I now live in Ireland and am so mongrelized I can now only do a parody of my former accent.

I think the american accent sounds very similar to Northern Ireland sometimes I mistake people here for americans.

When I visited America - California and Chicago I really 'got' the difference between our accents I was pretty noticeable and stood out like a sore thumb.

  2. I am scottish (glaswegian to be more specific!) and i really like my accent we roll and pronounce our R's (Drrum) and speak very quickly! (Whereabootsyehgoin!?) and i think scots and irish have the most distinctive and non-anglo- sounding- accent out of all english speaking countries! I know what you mean about aussies and kiwis they have an english/american twang! to be honest i think americans just speak a bit slower than the british but i agree there doesnt seem to be any anglo accent in the US!

  3. accents?

only people in the UK have accents, no really

  4. How Ya'll doin? To answer your question I'm from South Georgia. I feel my accent is profoundly different (as in each country/region you will find this to be true). My ancestors come from England and Germany. I'm sure we sound different from the English and other Anglo speaking nations/countries. We speak the same language, we just don't have the same accent, per se.

  5. I come from Bulawanlingtiodoomstrik and my accent is too different, hope that helps.

  6. I am from The USA (Ohio) and have an annoying midwestern twang...we caaaaaaaaaarry our a's waaaaaaay out;-)

  7. I am Irish, I think a Posh Dublin accent or sometimes a Belfast accent can sound like a toned down American accent.

English accent sounds posh to me.

The american is Deep and slooooow.

The Irish accent is mono-toned and fast.

    English dont pronounce their "r"s

Us Irish dont pronounce our "t-h"s.
