  1. To me, the word 'lady' has very negtive conotations.  It always reminds me of the tomboy heroines of books like 'Little Women' and the 'Little House' books, who were always being nagged by their tiresome sisters to be more 'ladylike'.  I was always particularly sorry for Laura in the Little House books, who was always being pestered about this.

To me, a 'lady'  means someone who never has any fun.  A dull thing to be in my opinion.  and a gentleman is someone who is too gentlemanly to behave in the way that I like a man to behave.  so I have somewhat negative views on both categories.

  2. One to ask questions too.

  3. I think elegance is key

  4. Yes, a woman can be a lady and independent.

A feminist can never be a lady.

  5. My personal definition:  A woman with class, grace, and etiquette; loaded with compassion, giving, and love.

I do think a woman can be a lady and still take care of herself.  Many were raised to be that way.

My definition of Gentleman is the same, except a man.  And yes, a gentleman does do all those things.  Otherwise, he wouldn't be a gentleman, he'd be a caveman.

  6. I find both terms to be outdated and unnecessary.

  7. To me, it's just being polite........

Although, I guess it means hindering to stereotypical roles perhaps..Someone on yahoo told me to act like a lady and not a man if I make the first move.
