  1. I think that's about accurate.

Religion is also a commonly used excuse to harm and/or prosecute others.

  2. Definition of religion? I would agree that the Bible and other religious books are stories. They have everything, Love, tragedy, hate, lust, good, evil, birth, death, heartbreak, and hope. As times change the rules and interpretations seem to change. The books show you how right action can bring happiness to ones life, and wrong action brings sadness and discord. But they are books of fables, with some truths.

  3. I think your definition of religion sucks. You have obviously got your head under the ground, please wake up and smell the coffee woman.

  4. Religion -

The three Abrahamic religions are like mom and pop stores that got taken over in the most aggressive possible ways, by the successful establishments of the times who were losing business.

We still have mom and pops original superior product, but its been refined into a corporate-friendly set of rules and divisions that keep people fighting and tribal, taking each other in contempt, and keeps the money rolling in. Mom and Pop would be grief-stricken.

  5. An organised system of believing in something that doesn't exist which was instigated and manipulated by men for the purposes of control, power and greed.

"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful."

    - Seneca the Younger

''Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet''

    ~ Napoleon Bonaparte

''Religion is comparable to a childhood neurosis''

    ~ Sigmund Freud

''Religion began when the first scoundrel met the first fool''

    ~ Voltaire

''Religions are founded on the fear of the many and the cleverness of the few''

    ~ Stendhal

''So far as religion of the day is concerned, it is a damned fake... Religion is all bunk''

    ~ Thomas Edison

  6. standers?

  7. In your definition I would change the word "stories" to the word "explanations."

    My definition :

Religion is the cultural expression of the approach to the Divine.

It takes the forms of myth and story as well as ritual and lifestyle.

I disagree w/ your friend's definition of witchcraft as a religion. It's a spiritual path but a religion is organized and witchcraft is not. I don't see the two as synonymous. Wicca, however, is organized and serves as the religious body for many witches.

  8. Acording to the bible true religion is defined in the book of James as helping widows and orphans and keeping oneself free of the sins of the world

ALL the major Religions do this at there best.

At there worst they act like idoloters cling to the ritual and the book claim there is only there way and send people to kill over it.

  9. Religion to me is a set of traditions and rituals to give thanks or may homage or Honor the unseen forces that are at work in the world, that is accompanied with stories and myths to explain how things have come about, and to teach the moral code of a society.
