  1. 8mm Mauser, good range of loads and ammo availability around the world.  Will take down just about anything you want.  762x54R is a good all around cartridge, too.  You can't beat the 91/30 for being tough and being able to stand up to any kind of conditions.  Also, 59.95 is a hard price to beat for a rifle.

  2. Mine is the .44 magnum rifle cartrige because it has the power to take out a large target from a long range. The caliber in rifles is unusal and underated, but works great. I use it for large animals. I also like .30-06 for accurate long range on mid-size animals.

  3. I target shoot a lot, i mostly use a mosin-nagant 91/30 (7.62x54R) and a .357 magnum (i put .38 SP in it for target shooting) the 7.62 is quite accurate for the 100 yards i have to shoot in.

  4. My 2 favorite calibers would have to be the 30-06 and the .45 Winchester Magnum.

The 30-06, like the guy above me said, is a very versatile round. It can be used to hunt a lot of different game and is a very flat shooting cartridge. So far, all that I've used it on is white tail deer in Minnesota. Haven't been able to hunt much else.

The .45 Winchester Magnum is a handgun cartridge. It is extremely powerful (out preforms the .44 magnum in every category), and is more versatile than the .44 mag and .44 special. You can make reloads that go from launching a 200 grain bullet 1900 fps to about 1100-900 fps. It is becoming a wildcat round, and not many people know of it, but it sure has a nasty bite and can stop just about anything you want to point the barrel at. This is my new backup hunting firearm. It would be used for personal protection in the event that I see a bear or something that pops out of the brush unexpectedly. I could use it for a primary hunting gun if I wanted to because it has been know to take white tail at 140 yards from a stand. I don't think the guy to took it was sane, but he said it dropped in one shot.

  5. My favorite is my .243 with hand loads and for recreation I shoot a Sharps LRE 45-120 500gr PP.  For a challenge, my favorite is shooting jackrabbits with the Sharps at ranges past 300 yards, better be good at knowing your range!

  6. 30-06 Great Big Game caliber since 1906.* The 22-50 for Varmints is awesome.*

  7. .30-06 for rifle because its extremely versatile and not as pricey as most magnum round but still gets the job done. i like .357 Magnum for handgun hunting because of the power of the cartridge and the fact i can load .38 special for practice at a lower cost.

  8. It was difficult to narrow down to two, but I finally decided on a rimless and a rimmed round both of which I use for medium game, primarily whitetail deer and hogs: 7x57 Mauser and 348 Winchester. The former is largely a matter of its being over a century old and still as useful as any. The latter has an emotional attachment because of the number of hunters using it and mentoring me when I was a kid. It's pretty well synonymous with the model 71 Winchester, as fine a lever gun as has ever been made.

I bet you don't have anybody else naming these two!

  9. .223 and 7.62X39MM......... They are great for targets and varmints..... The best part is there cheap....

  10. .22-250 for small stuff, .300 Rem. Ultra Mag for bigger stuff, and .375 H&H for really big stuff, and favorite pistol caliber is easily the .44 Mag, but I haven't shot the .460 or .500 S&W mags.........yet  :)

  11. the two i use on a regular basis are .270 & .222 rem.  here in Aus the .270 is the smallest you can use on deer, & i like the challenge of head shooting..222 is just for dingo b******s that have developed a liking for my galloway. cheers staycool

  12. My favorite deer caliber is the .25-06 Remington.  I like shooting my .458 Winchester Magnum (Ruger #1-H), but the only thing I can hunt with it is 400+ lb. wild boar.
