  1. 'La Belle et la Bête' de  Jean Cocteau avec Jean Marais and Josette Day.

Un classique éternel... to be seen at least once in a life time

"Once upon a time, in a world of magic and wonder, the true love of a beautiful girl may finally dispel the torment of a feral but gentle-hearted beast.

Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et la Bête) is a landmark feat of cinematic fantasy in which master filmmaker Jean Cocteau conjures spectacular visions of enchantment, desire, and death that have never been equaled.

  2. My favourites are Amélie and La Haïne.

  3. INDOCHINE!!!! (long, but amazingly worth the time)

Romauld et Julliette (a cute romantic comedy)

Diner de Cons (hilarious and ironic... watch for a good laugh!)

  4. None, I don't really watch french movies

  5. I agree with Inconnaissable, all the movies of Jean Cocteau were beautiful and magical...

I also like the movie "Manon des Sources" with Depardieu, based upon the novel from Marcel Pagnol.

  6. Le Chagrin et la pitié (The Sorrow and the Pity)

Okay, its a documentary and maybe that wasn't what you meant. So for an alternative I'd say La Cage Aux Folles.

  7. I have only seen a few, all were subtitled as I only know basic conversational french:

    Amelie - romantic comedy

Broherhood of the Wolf - Action movie with Marc Dacascos

????? - A horror movie made within the last decade, a young girl, her best friend, and her family are stalked by a serial killer.  Twist at the end is that it was all in the girls head and she was the murderer all along (she was in love with her best friend)

Ironically my favorite of these three was the one which title escapes me at the moment....  but all three were good.

  8. Indochine, Jules et Jim, Au revoir les Enfants, Umbrellas of Cherbourg

  9. Rouge, Jean de florette and Manon des sources, Mon Oncle d'Amerique, La Femme Nikita, C.R.A.Z.Y., Les regles des jeux, les reseaux sauvages and Amelie.

  10. My favorite is an old movie from 1966 with Louis de Funes, La Grande Vadrouille (although I enjoy all his movies).  It's a silly old comedy about some British pilots that get of course and end up in n**i controlled Paris.  They spend the movie trying to get across the line to where the Resistance is. :-)

I could (and do) also watch Amelie and Podium every few months.

  11. Amelie and A Man and A Woman

  12. Amour de Femme

This movie made me cry with glee

  13. Jean de Florette, Manon des sources, La chevre, Le diner des cons, Romeo et Juliette, Le fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain, La cage aux folles, Je t'aime a la folie, etc etc etc

  14. Indochine, & of course...La Cage aux Folles

  15. La Belle et la Bete

    La Cage aux Folles

    Blanche (wonderful medieval tale)

    Films by Jacques Tati

Was Abel Gance's "Napoleon" French?  If so, I loved it.

Can't recall others at the moment...
