What is your favorite passage from Girl With a Pearl Earring?

Why do you like the book? Whats your favorite passage? Why?

I thought the book was unprecedented. We've all been to a museum at some point, looked at a painting, and thought, "I wonder who that person was." Well, here is an author who thought that and managed to put it on paper in a style that is cohesive, fluid, and entertaining.

My favorite passage was the part where they meet and she's arranging vegetables according to color. He asks her why not this with this, and she challenges him with the phrase, "because they fight." I probably understood it more at the time because I was studying art.
