  1. The race does not always go to the swift or the contest to the strong...but that's still the way to bet.   Damon Runyon

  2. "Friendship is the golden thread that ties all hearts together"

"The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet"

    Your quotes are really excellent!!

  3. I've got two:

This one's  from the book "Their Eyes Were Watching God"

"Two things everybody's got tuh do fuh theyselves.  They got tuh go tuh God, and they got tuh find out about livin' fuh theyselves."

I like this one because it explains in the simplest terms what I fell a person must do in their life.  Everyone needs to find out what is best for them in their life, and at the same time find a way to make themselves to Heaven when life is over.

    From "Walk Two Moons"

"In the course of a lifetime what does it matter?"

Whenever I get upset about something stupid I think of this quote, because in the end when will it really matter?  It helps me keep in check of what is important

  4. That Mark Twain one seems to hold a lot of truth.  Something along the lines ' When I was 18 I thought my father was ignorant.  When I reached 21 I was amazed at how much he had learnt in the intervening years

here it is accurately:  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœWhen I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished by how much he'd learned in seven years.”

Just in case there are any doubts, it reflects the fact that when we are quite young, we think we have all the answers and the older generation have it all wrong.  When we grow up we appreciate the real problems.  The humour is implying the father had matured when we all know its the son!

Second favourite:  Women like the simple things in life.  Like men!

That has alienated about half of you, then ......

  5. Um...it changes according to my mood but right now:

"Remember, the most beautiful things in the world are the most useless; peacocks and lilies, for example."

                    -John Ruskin

  6. I  really like all of them, but the first one sounds reasonable for me because it really reflects me.

  7. i like this..

The more you study, the more you know.

The more you know, the more you forget.

The more you forget, the less you know.
