Question:

What is your favorite remedy for diaper rash?

My 5 week old has a horrible diaper rash. I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste, which has always worked wonders for my older son, but it's not helping yet. I even left his bottom open to air for a little while tonight.

I'm just curious to see what everyone else uses; I may have to switch brands if the Boudreaux's doesn't work for him.

Thanks!

  1. I use a warm soapy face washer, clean thoroughly, then dry and i then put on a barrier cream either bepanthan or psuedo cream.

i do this at every change when her rash it bad

  2. Monistat or something along those lines is the thing I always used.  The pediatrician said it was fine to use and recommended it because she said more diaper rash is caused by a fungal infection like a yeast infection or along the same lines so the same stuff woman use for yeast infections or the stuff men use for things like Jock Itch works great.  It cleared things up with my boys in 1-2 days with no problem even though most of their rashes were caused by heat or allergies and stuff like that.

  3. Cloth diapers!

  4. Well it sounds funny but I have used Bag Balm on my children's rashes for 5 years and it works wonders. Seriously wash and clean the bottom with a mild soap and warm water let air dry then slather on some bag balm.

  5. A&D Ointment...........But if nothing is helping then it could be an infection so maybe you should take your baby to the doctor.

  6. Sudocrem

  7. i leave him with his nappy off every morning, and just before his bath in the evening, but when he has his nappy on, i use bepanthen. its amazing!

he doesnt get nappy rash unless he is teething though

  8. Original Destin worked very well for my son. We actually tried everything else in the store and its the one that worked the best.

  9. Dr. Smith's is even better.

  10. A&D Ointment mainly to keep the moisture off his skin.. Anything else Ive used including desitin and balmex just made it worse ...Keep the skin DRY that's most important .. change the diaper right away

  11. plain old zinc cream, it has a soothing effect as well as is a barrier.  babies bot is better in no time.

  12. vaseline..it does wonders!!

  13. My favorite remedy is air as much as possible it does better than any diaper rash cream that I have tried.

  14. Desitin!

  15. Anything with zinc oxide -- including Boudreaux's and Desitin -- only made my kids' rashes worse.

The best thing is fresh air. Lots of it. Two tablespoons of baking soda in the bath can also help quite a bit. My favorite creams are Aquaphor and A&D -- and, if it looks like yeast, use a thin layer of Lotrimin underneath the diaper cream twice a day for at least a week (to make sure you fully clear the infection). A drop of tea-tree oil on a wet washcloth a few times a day can also help with yeast.
