Sir norman Foster's "30 St Mary Axe" in London is stunning and amusing and comes to mind right away. Taipei 101 in Taipei, Taiwan by C.Y. Lee & Partners gets my vote for most impressive structure. Their giant damper to counteract wind and earthquake movements is amazing. Form and function-wise, the classic Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco does it for me. Built in a time when there were not many tall buildings downtown, the pyramid shape was chosen so it would cast a minimal shadow below.
